For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength!
Philippians 4v13
Beloved of the Lord, I wish sometimes you could read my mail. My
mailbox, in just the past few days, has been full of mail from hurting
people. People who are in desperate financial situations, people who
have experienced the pain of abuse, divorce, loneliness, drug abuse,
separation from family. Still they are holding on, waiting on the Lord.
It is enough to break your heart. I often think that if it breaks my
heart, how much more so does it break the heart of God?
Some of you know that I have been through a lot of pain in my many
years on this earth, that’s why I write to encourage people. There were
times when I was going through things over 30 years ago that I needed
just one person to say “I understand, I’ve been there!” Most of the
time there wasn’t a soul. I wanted to help others who might be looking
for a word, just a word, of encouragement to hold on to.
After seeing both of my parents die, literally, in front of my eyes and
being left an orphan at a young age, I had to depend on God. Sometimes
a lot of folks I counsel with feel like orphans, because the
dysfunction in their lives prior to meeting Jesus has caused them to be
separated from family. God knows they are brand new people, but family
remembers the “old” person. It takes time for trust to be reestablished.
The scripture above has always been a comfort to me. Like you, I have
had days when I thought I could not go on another minute. During one of
those times I opened my bible, looked down and saw that scripture. God
spoke through His Word. He will do the same for you, when you get quite
and listen. Take your mind off your troubles and be still. That’s when
He will talk to you!
Some of you are there today, I felt it as I started to prepare my
message. You are wondering how you are going to make it another day,
how you are going to make it through the Christmas season. You are alone, you are broke financially, and in spirit.
God knows that. You can’t make it on your own. You need someone
stronger than you. That person is God. You can make it because HE
lives. You can do it because He loves and cares for you and HE is
strong when you are not. Hold on to Him. Rest in Him.
Tell God, “I can’t get through this alone, I need you to be strong in
me and through me.” Then raise your head. You can make it! You will
make it! You are not staying here, you are just passing through to
your promised land!
Father, thank YOU! We
are weak, but you are STRONG! Be with us today, surround us with your
supernatural peace. In the Word you said you would send a comforter! We
need comfort today, to make it through. Thank you for giving us
strength to do what we cannot do for ourselves. Thank you for sending
Jesus as a sign for all to see that you LIVE in us and through us! In
Your Name the Name above all names we pray! Amen and Amen
This song, written by the Gaithers, has always been a source of
comfort to me. When ever you think you can't make it, remember that you
can, because HE LIVES!
Because He Lives
God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone!
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives!
